One Battle Down and a War Yet to Win

Posted in Activism, Legal, News, Politics and Sex, porn with tags , , , on August 3, 2010 by paigetsindfw

This little witch just hopped off her broom after a trip to the 2010 Desiree Alliance conference in fabulous Las Vegas! If you’ve never been a sex positive person surrounded by hundreds of people of like mind and spirit, overflowing with love and the zeal of activism against the forces of oppression, then honey, you ain’t lived.

And maybe you don’t know, or think it’s buried under all the hatemongering out there, but there are MANY organizations in this great country working for the rights of consenting adults. You probably know the big ones like the ACLU, but do you know about HIPS? Do you know about the St. James Infirmary?

Can’t find a SWOP chapter near you to support? Then by hell start one. I am.

The fight is long, but we’re in it to win it. New Zealand managed to decriminalize, and they’re also winning against the misinformation campaigns, relying on hard evidence and the testimony of real sex workers.

But here, we often have to take the small victories as inspiration. So here’s one:

AVN reports that the federal government just lost its first obscenity trial in decades against porn icon John Stagliano.

The report tells the story in great detail, with good humor to boot, so my job is pretty much already done. Go read it and give thanks that perverts are still assured of their right to name themselves “Buttman” and film themselves doing filthy shit with tons of willing men and women for stacks of filthier money ❤ ❤ ❤

If You’re a Meat and Potatoes Type…

… then sometimes you miss out on the finer things. And that’s fine, because to each their own. But could you really say you were “living” if all you had was processed junk? What goes for food goes for porn too.

I can't help but think, when I see this woman, about how Chile's does the "guiltless grill" options with fewer calories and low fat. Non-exploitative, sex positive, feminist porn for all? Yes, fucking please!

Reported in Sexis, is this interview with Erika Lust, porn maker and, now, author of “Good Porn: A Woman’s Guide”

She talks about creating affirmative places for all genders, arousing every part of person, not just their genitals, and making work that “scratches the itch” while enriching the global discourse of sex. She asks her self the radical question, what kind of porn do I want my daughter to see, knowing full well she’ll see some in our culture no matter what? Porn that makes her ashamed and scared, or porn that helps her feel free and powerful?

What the hell else could I say to get you all to go out and get this book and every film she’s ever made immediately? Free body shots with every purchase?!

Free tickets to the Glory of Rome!! Limited time!

Posted in Activism, porn, Stuff to do with tags , , , , , , , , on July 8, 2010 by girlonpiano

In case you haven’t heard already, one of SiP’s favorite charities, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation, is this year’s beneficiary of the NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar. As if that isn’t cool enough, I actually am a pin-up in the calendar (so you KNOW you’re gonna buy one!). One of the things I love about the calendar is that you can buy one of the days and have it printed with whatever message you want. So, you can write a birthday greeting for your sugarpie, advertise your business (maybe even a discount code good on that day?), or just say whatever is on your mind.

The days are $25 each, or you can buy 5 days for $100.  This is a really small price to pay for some great advertising, and it all goes to support WFF, which is even better!  Visit their website to buy a ticket (there’s a paypal button on the site), or email NYCSexBloggersCal@gmail.com

To help spread the word about the calendar days for sale, Dallas’ own Gloryhole Productions is offering a special incentive. For a VERY limited time, if you purchase a day on the calendar, you will also receive a free ticket to the Glory of Rome party on August 28th (check out the details on their site).

This offer is only good for a very short time!  Please put “Glory of Rome” or “Sex in Power” in the comment box. When you get your confirmation email, forward it to gholeproductions at gmail .com and we’ll hook you up with a ticket. Limited to two tickets per person.

Free stuff. Sexy free stuff.

Does Abstinence Only Education WorK?

Posted in News, Politics and Sex, Religion, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on February 14, 2010 by finickymuse

Conservatives are all atwitter now that there is a study by Jemmot and Jemmot that shows that abstinence only education reduces sexual activity in teens. Perhaps however, the conservatives failed to notice that one third of the 12 and 13 year old students in the study were already sexually active. Perhaps they haven’t read a study done at Iowa State that shows that 1 in 4 low income children have their first sexual intercourse by age 12. The Jemmot and Jemmot study also teaches abstinence without guilt and misinformation. Said Loretta Jemmot, co-author of the study, “Our program didn’t focus on the moralistic issue of waiting until marriage. It focused on waiting until you’re responsible to be able to handle the consequences of sex.” Read more.

Did you fill out the Sexual Freedom Survey?

If not, YOU BETTER, or SiP will hunt you down and take away your sexy license.

Take the survey now!!!!

Let’s start the New Year off in a proactive way, by adding your voice to the Sexual Freedom Report!

This questionnaire will be the foundation for the first report on the State of Sexual Freedom in America today.  If you already responded to the questionnaire, and many of you have, thank you!  If not, we would really value your opinions!

As I shared with you in the first email, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation plans to publish regular reports on the sexual freedom movement, designed to help identify the social changes taking place, or that must take place for progress to be made, on the diverse issues on which we work. We are particularly interested in recognizing opportunities for already-established sexual freedom issue groups to work together.

We would like to know what you think are the most pressing sexual freedom issues this country is facing and so we are asking for a bit of your time and a lot of your knowledge and expertise.

We will treat your responses as confidential, unless you specifically give us permission to share your comments.  To protect the confidentiality of our participants, we will download the responses each day and they will be taken completely offline.  With that assurance, we are also asking that you provide your contact information on the survey.

I do hope that you’ll take some time right now to respond to the questionnaire.  What you think really does matter to us and to this project.

Please click here or at the link below to begin the survey.

Thanks for your time and your participation!

PS:  Please make sure to give us an email address in the questionnaire so that we can email you a copy of the completed report immediately prior to its public release.

Thanks Abstinence Only!

Posted in Sex Ed, Stuff to do with tags , , , , , , on January 11, 2010 by Chase

The good folks at Scarleteen have taken to Twitter to thank Abstinence-only education for all the good it’s accomplished in our lives. You can join them by posting #ThanksAbsOnly along with your own personalized message of “gratitude”. Some of my faves so far:

“#thanksabonly for giving young people the idea that sex is emotionally risky but marriage is not.”

“#thanksabonly for helping the U.S. STD rates reach record highs & syphilis make a comeback.”

“#thanksabonly for helping Texas win in both teen prgenancy & repeat teen pregnancy!”

“#thanksabonly for teaching absolutely NOTHING about sex except it’s BAD.”

“#thanksabonly for currently giving me a job undoing everything that was taught to this generation.”

What has Abstinence-only education done for you lately?

“Hymen” is so over

The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU) has announced a campaign to replace the term “Hymen” with “Vaginal Corona.” Read more

(From The Local) “Language has power over how we think. The point is to provide information about how the body works.”

“The group hoped the new term would displace the traditional Swedish word used for the hymen, mödomshinna, which translates literally as ‘virginity membrane’ and led to misconceptions about female sexuality, according to RFSU.”

“It was portrayed as the boundary between guilt and innocence…girls have been raised to protect their hyman, not to run, jump, or ride horses. But in reality there is no membrane; rather there are folds of mucous membrane which form a crown around the vaginal opening.”
