New Diesel Ads: Ballsy, Banned

Posted in Crazy/Funny, Shopping with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 30, 2010 by Chase

Ah, Diesel. Like their jeans. LOVE their new ad campaign. The UK doesn’t agree. You be the judge…

Diesel doesn’t see what the big deal is. They’re used to pushing limits with their campaigns. Gotta love how ads with brazen nudity get beached in America, while across the pond it takes a brazenly stupid idea to make waves. But those who can combine provocative ideas and hot bodies (ala Diesel’s controversial “Global Warming Ready” campaign) are welcome to come float in my pool anyday.

Sure, the idea is stupid. Provocations need not always be high minded. Sometimes action that’s bold and without forethought produces the kind of ballsy results that, for better or worse, get you noticed… like gawking at the remains of a bikini model eaten by a lion.

Or waking up to realize that the previous day’s retail therapy involved paying full price for pre-frayed denim. Blasphemy.

(just kidding, Diesel… you know I love you)

Mississippi School Erases Lesbian Student from Yearbook

Posted in Activism, Legal, LGBT Rights, News, Stuff to do, You Fucked Up! with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on April 30, 2010 by Chase

Oh Mississippi. The ACLU must be so tired of visiting you. The same state that has seen the highly publicized legal battle unfold over Constance McMillien is back in the news.

Before all the prom drama, we previously covered the story of Ceara Sturgis, an honor student at Wesson Attendance Center who had her senior photo banned from the yearbook because she rocked a tux. She fought the decision with the help of the ACLU, and now yearbooks have been printed… with no trace of Sturgis AT ALL. No photo. No name. Nothing.

Ironically, with all the news coverage more people will see the photo that high school officials tried to ban. Object lesson: Courage gets you recognized.

And what does cowardice and hatred get you? Angry calls and e-mails! Wesson Attendance Center needs to hear that they cannot go around erasing students from their yearbook.

Principal Ronald Greer can be reached here: rdgreer@copiah.k12.ms.us

Principal Oscar Hawkins can be reached here: ohawkins@copiah.k12.ms.us

The school’s phone number is (601) 643-2221 and their fax number is (601) 643-2458

Find them on the web here

Oh Mississippi, when are you going to learn…

Something you never wanted to know about balls…

Brought to you by The Cult (Chuck Palahniuk’s website). Check out their feature section for other segments, where you can find answers to other pressing questions, such as whether or not ecstacy causes permanent brain damage… (hint: yes, it does)

Got a gross question for Dr. Bazell? E-mail info@chuckpalahniuk.net and they will send it his way. Just don’t ask him if you’ve got specific condition/disease. He can’t tell and doesn’t want to know.

Get Equal: Fight Against DADT Grows Balls

Today, Lt. Dan Choi turned an HRC photo op into a real protest:

Check out Towleroad for excellent Tweet by Tweet coverage: “Lt. Dan Choi, Captain Jim Pietrangelo, and activist Robin McGehee of GetEQUAL were arrested earlier today following a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” rally thrown by the Human Rights Campaign which featured Kathy Griffin.”

“Choi took the stage anyway, told Griffin “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is not a joke, and announced that he was marching to the White House. Choi then began leading hundreds to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.”

Read Lt. Choi’s remarks at the rally here (via Americablog). Add to the momentum at GetEQUAL.org

Finally, one PETA Ad I can get behind

There’s just something about a collared naked girl delivering a message of pet castration that makes this one seem congruent to me. But I know this is just a fluke.

Rugby rookie initiation goes horribly wrong

Posted in Crazy/Funny, Medical, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 8, 2009 by Chase

The most homoerotic sport on earth just got gayer…

(From Carnal Nation) “gair rhydd, Cardiff University’s student newspaper, reports today that members of the college’s engineering department apparently caught food poisoning recently after eating gherkins (read: pickles) that had previously been inserted into players’ anuses.  It was part of a hazing ritual for the department’s rugby team.”

” …the endurance tests were designed to test ‘Strength of Stamina, ‘ ‘Strength of Character,’ and ‘Strength of Stomach’ …activities caught on camera included flashing and anal egg insertions.  There was also something with toilet paper, where one end was placed between a player’s butt cheeks and the other end was set on fire.” Read more

That last paragraph really takes me back to my college days… good times, good times
